There are over 2.14 million foreign workers currently working in Malaysia, says human resources minister Steven Sim.
Sim said these workers come from 15 source countries:
- Bangladesh – 803,322
- Indonesia – 543,514
- Nepal – 332,712
- Myanmar – 173,630
- India – 106,929
- Pakistan – 76,011
- Philippines – 52,340
- Thailand – 21,822
- Vietnam – 16,614
- Sri Lanka – 5,938
- Cambodia – 5,655
- China – 4,796
- Laos- 1,491
- Uzbekistan – 12
- Kazakhstan – 3
Sim was replying to Ismail Abdul Muttalib (PN-Maran), who had asked about the number of foreign workers and undocumented migrants in the country.
In a written parliamentary reply, the minister also directed the query on the number of undocumented migrants to the immigration department.
